Second Annual Seiyuu Awards

This news actually came out a few days ago (nearly a week ago, actually), and I blame Smash Bros Brawl for not knowing.  I'm horribly addicted…but I digress.  Akibanana posted about the 2nd annual award ceremony, and the results are in!

Probably the most stunning bit is that Hirano Aya, who performed in 2006's hit Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu and 2007's Lucky Star (both produced by Kyoto Animation, concidentally) won the award for Best Female Seiyuu for her role as Izumi Konata.  Its not surprising, considering that Konata instantly became an internet sensation for her quirky, trademark, otaku characterization.  Last year Hirano won the award for Best Newcomer, for her role as Suzumiya Haruhi.

On the men's side, Miyano Mamoru won for his role as Yagami Light from Death Note.  Is it me, or does it seem like the award show is kind of pandering toward the most popular hits of the year?  It would have been great to see Konishi Katsuyuki win this award for his role as Kamina from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, which was my personal favorite…

For more really, really, really, really great in-depth reporting about the phenomenon that is Hirano Aya, I recommend hashihime's blogsite.
