Armored Core over the years

I've been an Armored Core fan since the very beginning.  The first Armored Core on the Playstation One was the best incarnation ever, and later installments (while still fun and breathtaking to watch) just didn't have that pizazz the first one had.  It felt truly, truly complete.

Last night I was up a little late watching the intro cinemas for each of the series again.  The original PSX intros are pretty hilarious to watch — they look like something an animation intern did (lol).  Not quite the cinematic masterpieces of the next gen console beasts, but still pretty remarkable in what they were able to achieve with the technology, considering what they had back then.

Why am I bringing this up?  I dunno.  Nostalgia, perhaps.  I don't really play Armored Core anymore these days; I'm more focused on studying and rediscovering retro fighting games I didn't have a chance to play in the past.  Our family was pretty poor back then, so I didn't have access to much outside of our local video rental store.

Armored Core 5 is on the horizon now, though.  I sincerely hope they revamp the series and bring something new and fresh to the table, and not fall into that pitfall of "hardcore gamers only" trap that they did with the Armored Core 3 line.  But alas, only time will tell.
