A week in links (We’ve moved! version)

Well here it is…my last post here at vox.

It's been a fun three years here.  I'm a little shocked at how much time has passed since then, but it was a wild ride.  At the beginning I didn't know where I was heading with this blog, and truth be told I was just doing it on a whim at a friend's request.  Thinking back now, I really owe him for giving me that initial push.

My new website is called  I got the idea for the name after hearing the term "digital pugilism" on another website.  The phrase really stuck with me, and a few days later I did a domain name search that pulled up nothing.  Absolutely nothing.  Seeing an opportunity, I quickly bought the domain name and now…here we are.

The site itself is pretty straightforward.  It's still (more or less) the same thing here; a blog style format with a couple of nerdy posts and what-not sprinkled everywhere.  It's still new, so hopefully as time goes by it'll grow into something better.

I'll still come vist vox, though.  There's a lot of cool people around here.  I highly recommend checking out their blogs, especially people like (in no particular order):

fumi25Really cool blog that links a lot of nico videos!
Hangaku GozenAnother blog by a Japanese lady living here in the states.  Always has something important to say!
Lauren I was impressed with her layout design, but she also writes about really interesting things as well.
KimuraThis guy has the funniest stuff on his website.  His "quote of the week" posts are real pearls of wisdom, too.
M—–I I think he's the most popular dude on vox.  I love his clever and quirky written posts!
Ross If anybody inspired me the most, it's this guy.  His tech-based posts are very insightful and extremely useful!
IvysgrandkidThis dude is the next best thing, mark my words. One of the best photo-blogs on vox.
Lonely Bob I've never seen a more consistent blog than this guy's. He really loves thai food!
Workaholic HostessI love this blog — I even had the fortune to meet her, and she's super cool. An awesome blog!
Kyoto ObserverOne of the first neighbors I've ever had — he always has something important to say.

Thanks everybody for being (and staying) my neighbor.  Apologies to anyone I might've missed — you guys are awesome too.  And thanks to everyone who dropped by here too!  Without you guys I wouldn't have found the courage to start a website.

Thank you everyone!  See you on the flip-side!

A week in links (weekend pugilist version)

This summer is shaping up to be one of the biggest video game tournaments ever.  There's a lot of big majors going on soon, like Devastation, Evolution 2010, and the Electronic Sports World Cup.  I keep hoping as time goes by that fighting games will finally break through and be considered a real "sport"; a sport in the sense that two atheletes go head to head in a battle of wits and guts.

Just with controllers.

I mean, POKER is considered a "sport" (yeah right).  You don't see physically fit doods mashing it up there, do you?  And I don't mean to demean poker, as it is a relatively fun hobby, but there's so many random luck factors that just don't exist in fighting games, to be perfectly honest.  If anything, if you want to compare fighting games to another sport with random factors, you might as well add boxing to that list.

But anyway, I digress.  Evo is coming in less than a month, and it's about time to start kicking training mode in high gear.  There's still lots more to work on!

A week in links (The road to EVO version)

Just got the confirmation email today — I've been accepted as a judge at the 2010 Evolution Fighting Game Championships!

I didn't think I would be accepted honestly, but I guess I wrote something positive in my application email.  I found out that they've assigned me to the 5pm ~ Midnight shift for Super Street Fighter IV.  While I'm glad to be an official judge now, I'm a little worried since the Melty Blood tournament will be happening at the same time.  Hopefully that'll get fixed later.

It's going to be June real soon here.  I've been grinding away in practice mode for nearly three hours daily in an effort to discover (and rediscover) new techs and combos for Melty Blood.  So far it's been paying off; I've mastered a few new characters outside of Ryougi Shiki.  That'll help me out just in case I run into any people who play those characters.

Very good week in terms of news.  A big thank you goes out to all of you who've submitted questions on formspring!  It's given me a new outlook on what people look for in the topics I write, so I'm a bit more confident in myself now. Enjoy the week's links!

A week in links (movin’ on up version)

Good times feel like they're coming around, finally.  I got a few job offers online, with one being an overseas position in Japan and another being a more secure government position here locally.  It's a nice refreshing pace, considering that all the jobs I've had up to now have been fleeting.  I'd like to get a stable income and start saving up for more important things.

However the case, a lot of friends around here have been making a lot of great strides.  We don't play games together as much as we used to, but that's probably due to the fact that we've all been growing up, more or less.  But I spose that's just inevitable, eh?

At any rate, I'll continue to post as much fighting game-related content as much as I can.  Enjoy the week's links!

A week in links (Boxtown version)

What a crazy weekend!  I went out of town Friday to go visit an old friend that I hadn't seen in nearly six years or so and then had to drive back on Saturday so I wouldn't miss work.  That lead to an extremely exhausting night, of which I immediately collapsed upon as soon as I reached home.

It was good though.  JD was an old friend during the Tekken Tag days, so we've known each other for nearly 10 years or so.  Good guy too.  He doesn't really play many fighting games anymore, but he's still widely recognized as the most talented player in Tulsa, if not the entire state of Oklahoma.

I didn't get a chance to write up the usual Saturday post, and for that I apologize.  If anything, I always try to churn it out on a weekend before the new week starts.  I don't know about everyone else, but I've always kinda felt that the week starts on Monday.

Anyway, enjoy the links.

A week in links (Midwest Championships stream is a go! version)

So the livestream is on full blast, and one of the mystery games at MWC was revealed — it was Tekken Ball!  What a blast from the past, I thought.  Tekken Ball was a really great game; props to the MWC organizers for coming up with that title off the top of their heads.

I wonder what else they have planned for the mystery game tournament?

I'm still bummed that I had to cancel the tournament, but at least now I have a new job and a stable income.  This was a heavy week, what with juggling four jobs and all.  But it's worth it, I think.  Gotta make that cheddar somehow.

A week in links (Do not imbibe that liquid version)

Let’s Play Facade – Bonus Part 1

Crazy times coming ahead; I just got the green light for my fourth job.  I don’t know how well my sanity will remain intact in the coming weeks, but the income is most welcome.  Had to cancel the trip to Midwest Championships (I cried into my pillow all night), but EVO is still on schedule in July.  Really looking forward to that one.

This blog has been running for three straight years now.  I still remember my first entry way back in 2007.  I like to think that my writing has improved since then, but as time goes on I always feel there’s more room for improvement.  I won’t be around as often starting next week, but I’ll always try to find the time to blog something (hopefully) humorous and insightful for all of you.

Bigger and better things are coming down the line, I promise.
